A. | How do you define yourself?
I am a jewelry designer and have been full time for six years now.
A. | What is your work routine? What does your job entail?
Take care of me, I do yoga and walk—healthy body, healthy mind, then I go to my studio and do some work, meet with clients, and then do some more work. You know, even when your not physically in the studio you are constantly thinking of what you are doing next.
A. | How did you become interested in the fashion industry?
What happened here was that I was not able to find what I liked it retail so I stared making it myself and that’s how I started. I was first making it just for friends when I lived in New York and then when I moved here I decided to do it full time.
A. | What is eco-fashion?
Now days we loose a lot design and quality wise when things happen so fast, for example fast fashion.
A. | What is fashion? How does fashion play a role in your life?
There is designer fashion, fast fashion, eco-fashion there are all kinds of it.
A. | Where do you feel at home?
I am a citizen of the world.
A. | How does oppression and privilege influence people in the fashion industry?
I am a jewelry designer and have been for 15 years.
A. | How do you define success?
Its not just financial; it is to be happy with what you do everyday.
A. | What would you like to see more of in Seattle's Fashion Industry?
Well when you look at our streets its not very exciting so I would like to see people wearing something different! We cannot justify the sloppiness by the weather—a lot of other places also have this weather.
A. | Did you ever change careers? If so, why? When?
I was in finance when I started this and it was funny you have friends who were saying oh your crazy, you are just throwing your salary away basically and then you had friends who were saying, wow great you should go with that and was kind of strange to hear all of those voices. Doing this was one of the things that I am the most proud of. You can always find some way to pay the bills.
A. | What was your biggest failure?
You should learn to call those lessons and not failures because if you don’t try something you will never know.
A. | What would you recommend to yourself 20 years ago?
Don’t be so hard on yourself. No one is perfect.
A. | Any other production advice you would like to share?
Stick to your vision and don’t be swayed by others telling you no.
There is never a good time to start a business, there is always a reason not to. If you have a passion for something just do it.
