TATIANA SHEBELNICK, DESIGNER
FIELD: FASHION DESIGN ORIGIN: BELARUS ZODIAC: TAURUS
A. | How did you become interested in the fashion industry?
My mother was actually a physicist. Fashion was my mother's passion as well, she learned how to sew with perfection and make patterns from scratch every single day when she got home from the academy of sciences she was on the sewing machine making clothes for me and for her friends.
When I was 16 years old, I was supposed to go to fashion school but the school was in a different city and the decision was for me not to leave my city. Out of the blue, I went to school for library science. I was an A student and right after graduation I was offered a teaching job in the same department of library and information sciences. That is where I was teaching for 6 years before transferring on a full ride to another university in the US.
All of the knowledge that I have acquired as a librarian in terms of architecture, organization and finding information are skills that have helped me tremendously. With publicity right now I am finding all of the editors of all of the magazines. Being a web and graphic designer I photograph and do all of my images and websites. All of my skills from my job I have helped me run my business.
A. | What do you outside of your work routine?
I love Latin dancing. I danced for years on the Bachata performance team and when I started fashion that's when It was too much so now I go socially. I obviously love traveling and exploring with my friends, music concerts, museum, really anything that has to do with the arts.
A. | What are you most proud of in your career?
The progress of just two years in terms of publicity! The fact that people make a lot of compliments and I have received a couple of requests about filmmakers. Now I am living my dream and that is a thing that I am very proud of.
A. | Where do you feel at home?
I always remember a quote from my friend in the Netherlands: “My home is where I feel happy.”
A. | What's your vision for the future of your work?
I want to continue developing my style of constructs of colors and textures. The future collection will be based on Belarusian heritage.
A. | How do you define success?
For some people, success is millions. For me it is recognition, it is when you can leave legacy behind you.
A. | From where do you get inspiration?
It comes from anywhere.
A. | How does oppression influence the fashion industry?
It's not about ethnicity, it's not about the color it's not about where you came from it's about the talent and obviously the hard work.
